In sports the winner takes it all. But remember in sports it is all about `winning and losing’. What is important is to participate and keep playing for the passion with the true spirit of sportsmanship. At the Tokyo Olympics, there were many highs and lows for India. There was joy and tears but overall we managed to improve our own performance. We managed to beat our own record of medals.
The medal tally at the Tokyo Olympics swelled to seven – the highest-ever for the country. The Indian contingent won one gold, two silver and four bronze medals. The icing on the cake was when Neeraj Chopra’s historic gold at the men’s javelin throw which helped the nation amass their highest-ever medal tally at a Games in Tokyo.
Mirabai Chanu kicked off the proceedings on Day 1 of the Tokyo Games claiming India’s first silver in weightlifting before PV Sindhu became the nation’s second Olympic double medallist after wrestler Sushil Kumar. She becomes the first Indian woman to win two individual Olympic medals.
The shuttler added a bronze to her tally after winning the silver at the 2016 Rio Games. Boxer Lovlina Borgohain added a third to India’s list with a bronze in women’s welterweight category.
Wrestler Bajrang Punia added to the medal haul by defeating Kazakhstan’s Daulet Niyazbekov, 8-0 in their bronze medal bout.
Indian wrestler Ravi Dahiya won an Olympic silver medal after he lost to Zavur Uguev of the Russian Olympic Committee in the men’s freestyle 57kg final.
The 23-year-old wrestler beat Sanayev Nurislam of Kazakhstan in a dramatic semi-final that saw him overcome a 9-2 lead with two minutes to spare, achieving victory by fall.
On Thursday, after 41 years India won a medal in hockey when they beat Germany in a thrilling match to win bronze.
Unfortunately, the women’s hockey team could not bring home a medal. The team went through to the Olympic semi-finals for the first time in history.

Boxer Lovlina Borgohain had assured India of another medal – a bronze Borgohain won that bronze when she lost to Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey, 5-0. Her bronze makes her the third Indian boxer to win an Olympic medal.
