Fighting for that promotion, not getting the right opportunities, having to deal with unnecessary conflicts at work and trying to achieve a work life balance. As a media and corporate professional, I saw most of my colleagues lead a very stressful life.
Lack of exercise, no time for hectic Gym workouts, eating out, late night parties, skipping lunch and traveling long distances for work. The end result … well just in their early 30s many professionals succumb to lifestyle diseases and obesity. Some of the negative things I observed was stress, anxiety, lack of empathy and depression.
After pursuing my Masters in Journalism and Communications I came to Mumbai to pursue a dream career in the media industry. Along with the highs of meeting and hanging out with many high profile celebrities, politicians, CEOS of top notch companies; I always had a nagging feeling of doing something more in life.
My strategy to survive in the `VUCA’ world was to pursue Yoga and Fitness. Having been exposed to the importance of exercise since childhood, I realized that working out helped I deal with my inner loneliness and stress.

Love for Learning
I always had a love for reading and learning new skillsets. I got myself certified from LM Fitness Academy to learn the basics of Gym Management and Personal Training. I also pursued a Masters in Yogic Education from Yoga Vidya Niketan which is affiliated with the Kaivalyadham institute. During my college days I was already trained as a Cardio/Aerobics Instructor.
This also became a side hustle along with my main career. It helped me survive in the very uncertain and ever changing media and digital world; where things and equations change overnight.
I took baby steps and started my little fitness studio under the brand name `Curls n Curves’ in the year 2001. It continued as a side hustle to culminate into a full-fledged business in the year 2015. I also launched the venture Venus Media to bring in an element of education to the venture. We started off with workshops, courses and classes in the field of Yoga for Children, Speech n Drama, Public Speaking, and Bollywood Dance classes for children and adults.
Call it intuition or premonition, I launched www.Yogfit.in just before the Covid Pandemic hit the world. It was brewing inside me and I had almost lived through many challenges myself in life to understand the need for a helping hand. Professionals need proper guidance around Yoga, Mental Health, Nutrition, Ayurveda and Prevention of diseases. With the Pandemic looming large now Yoga along with the correct diet and lifestyle approach can help us in building immunity.
The Coronavirus Pandemic has shown us how fragile and small we are. Nature can turn around and leave us cooped up in our homes.
Eastern spirituality directs us to an eternal quest to now our real self and the purpose of life. Yoga is that one path which can connect our mind and body. It directs us to a shortcut to `self-realization’ and meditation in movement. We believe that Fitness and Health is a Holistic concept. It is not just about lifting heavy weights and losing weight.
We need to take care of our diet, mental health, thought patterns and have the right balance of fitness regimes. And it is not a short term concept. It is a lifelong commitment that you make to yourselves.
I can proudly say that there hasn’t been in a day in my life when I have skipped my fitness routine. Be it Yoga at home, or gymming, Aerobics or just a walk.
Just a little knowledge and habit formations can go a long way in helping us be more aware and mindful. I want to help others live a positive, healthy and a fit life.
