PV Sindhu makes India proud with a medal at Tokyo Olympics 2021

PV Sindhu wins a Bronze at Olympics
Pusarla Venkata Sindhu aka PV Sindhu is arguably the most prolific Indian badminton star of the 21st century. Last week she secured a bronze for India.The Indian badminton star became only the second Indian and first woman to win two Olympic medals. This happened after a straight-game win over World No 9 He Bing Jao of China in the women’s singles third-place play-off.
The tall and lanky Sindhu who started playing badminton at the age of 8 has now become the first Indian woman to win medals in two Olympic games. As her father PV Ramana gushed “we are very proud of you,” congratulations poured in from all over.
She has set a new yardstick of consistency, dedication and excellence. My heartiest congratulations to her for bringing glory to India,” Kovind tweeted.
“We are all elated by the stellar performance by @Pvsindhu1. Congratulations to her on winning the Bronze at @Tokyo2020. She is India’s pride and one of our most outstanding Olympians,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.
Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, who won India’s first medal in the Tokyo Olympics with a silver, also took to Twitter to congratulate Sindhu.
“Congratulations @Pvsindhu1 on winning bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020,” she tweeted.
Congratulating Sindhu, cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar said in a tweet: “2016 (silver) & 2020 (bronze). What an achievement to win 2 Olympic medals for (India) @Pvsindhu1! You have made the whole nation very very proud.”
India’s lone individual Olympic gold medallist shooter Abhinav Bindra congratulated Sindhu and said “you make us super proud !!!”
Congratulating Sindhu on winning her historic bronze, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur wrote: “SMASHING VICTORY PV Sindhu!!! You dominated the game & made history #Tokyo2020! An Olympic medalist twice over! India is so proud of you & awaits your return!”

In an interview to Rajdeep Sardesia of India Today, Sindhu spoke about how she felt on losing the silver.

Mixed emotion, I don’t know I am very happy–It’s important to let go and keep yourself motivated,” Sindhu opened up on losing the semi-final clash and missing out on the silver/bronze medal in Tokyo Olympics.

“Coach told me Podium finish is the most important, it made a big thing for me,” Sindhu said when she was asked about winning bronze.

 A jog back in time

Sindhu,who won an unprecedented silver at the 2016 Rio Games in what was her maiden Olympics appearance, scripted history as she became the first female from India to win an Olympic silver medal. In the 2016 Olympic final, Sindhu lost to Spain’s Carolina Marin.

Sindhu had a great 2018 as she also got a silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games after losing to compatriot Saina Nehwal in the final.
