Apple CEO Tim Cook who is a very popular figure in the tech world is in India this week. His first stopover was Mumbai where he officially launched the Apple Retail Store in BKC an upscale neighbourhood in Mumbai.
His visit is believed to be a sign of Apple’s commitment to India, which is the world’s second largest smartphone market. The iphone is still an aspirational product for a price sensitive market like India. As the crowd cheered and clapped in a sea of green T Shirts dorned by the Apple staff; Cook was seen waving and signing autographs. The opening event had people from all parts of the country moving to local music and beats.
As per Forbes, Tim Cook is the most valuable Apple executive worth 190 crores USD. He worked under founder Steve Jobs and later became the CEO of Apple Inc in 2011. in Mumbai, Cook met up with Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries. He also met up with a few Bollywood stars and startup founders. His pics while eating the famous Vada Pav of Mumbai with Madhuri Dixit went viral.
Tim Cook meets the Prime Minister
Tim Cook met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on April 19. He thanked PM Modi for the warm welcome and tweeted that his company is committed to growing and investing across India. Delighted to meet Apple’s CEO, PM Modi tweeted that he was glad to exchange views on diverse topics. The second Apple store was inaugurated in Delhi too. A retail store basically gives an aspirational feel to the premium customers. Apple tried to set up retail stores in India a few years ago but could not.

Apple also plans to start manufacturing in India as it diversifies its supply chains from China. India now accounts for 5 percent of iPhone production.

Known to be a fitness enthusiast Tim Cook is a highly creative person as can be seen in the Apple products. After he became CEO, he has taken Apple to great heights in terms of revenue and profit. It is remembered that Steve Jobs visited India in 1974, to explore the spirituality and later founded Apple Inc. Jobs was a college dropout who believed in intuition. Cook is an MBA and is known for his collaborative leadership.
