COVID-19 Pandemic is being compared to the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918, one of the deadliest disease outbreaks. It killed more than 50 million people worldwide. But, it did vanish away one fine day.
Now, COVID-19 has been around for more than six months. This story now has another twist in the tale. With more research being done and scientists working round the clock, now the talk is about living with the virus. It has already completely changed the way we live, think, interact, eat and meet people. Our social fabric has been dismantled; be it about children going to schools, travelling by public transport to reach office, attending a simple party or a wedding or going to a temple or attending a funeral. None of this holds true for now.
And the big news is that according to WHO officials eradicating Covid-19 once and for all is very unlikely.
This means, it is going to stay with us at least for sometime if not forever. A vaccine is a possibility but we cannot predetermine the scientific results or a given situation.
Dr Mike Ryan, Executive Director, of the World Health Organization’s Emergencies Programme, said on Friday it is unlikely that the new Coronavirus would be eliminated.
“In the current situation it is unlikely we can eradicate this virus,” he told an online briefing from Geneva.
He said that, by extinguishing clusters of infection, the world could “potentially avoid the worst of having second peaks and having to move backward in terms of lockdown”.
This is not the first time WHO has said that the SARS-CoV-2 is here to stay
The WHO has always been vocal about the fact that Coronavirus is not going anywhere.
On 13th May 2020, Ryan in his official statement mentioned that the novel Coronavirus might not ever go away and we might have to learn to live with it.
“We have a new virus entering the human population for the first time and therefore it is very hard to predict when we will prevail over it,” he had said.
“This virus may become just another endemic virus in our communities and this virus may never go away.”
New way of Living
Social scientists have suggested that in order to deal with COVID-19 effectively, we will need to practice social distancing till 2022.We have to work around on our emotional and mental well-being to deal with Covid-19
We need to wear face masks, sanitize our hands, and maintain social distancing. We have to gear up emotionally and mentally so that we can deal with the upcoming changes as life is not going to remain the same as it was.
We also have to move inwards towards a more inward and spiritual way of living.
Vaccine might be the big relief for all of us
The only ray of hope in our lives is Bharat Biotech which is creating the vaccine for Coronavirus in India. Maybe it can bring some normalcy into our lives. Apart from this, there are various vaccine attempts in different countries having reached the clinical trails phase. Let’s hope for the best.
