Christmas during Coronavirus- `It means a little more’

Christmas during Coronavirus

Normally, December is the time when  there’s magic in the air ! Worldover glittery people go shopping, plan holidays and bring in the Christmas and New Year.  But 2020 is different. Coronavirus has changed Christmas and its meaning.

People are now shopping `more online’ instead of visiting the malls. No foreign trips but just weekend getaways. No Christmas parties and Carol singing but mostly virtual parties.

The sentiment remains muted in many parts of the world like Germany, England and U.S with lockdown measures in place. With unemployment running high and the business sentiment low; most people are visiting malls with a lot of precautions.

One can see shoppers waiting in line outside shops and establishments.  To keep things sane and bright, malls have invested in some amount of Christmas decorations

For many families who have lost dear ones to the deadly virus, it is a sober Christmas. As someone said “Christmas is a time for families. So, now is the time to be grateful for what we have

As British poet Edith Sitwell wrote in her Autobiography, “It is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home,”

Children’s author Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, wrote in How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, “Maybe Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. / Maybe Christmas… perhaps… means a little bit more!”
