Can we prevent lifestyle Diseases?

Sedentry urban lifestyle, corporate stressful desk jobs, eating out frequently and now the overuse of technology is playing havoc in our lives. Wrong habits and stress has seen the increase in the number of Lifestyle diseases. It’s basically a disease associated with the way a person or group of people lives.

Lifestyle diseases include atherosclerosis, heart disease, hypertension, cancer diabetes and hypertension. Studies report that globally, 14.2 million people between the ages of 30-69 years die prematurely each year from lifestyle diseases.

One cannot, of course rule out that sometimes one is genetically pre-disposed to certain medical conditions; but we can always work towards prevention. By adopting new ways of living, changes in diet and lifestyle, and change of environment. These diseases take years to develop, and once encountered it is rather difficult if not impossible to cure them.

A report, jointly prepared by the World Health Organization and the World Economic Forum, says India will incur an accumulated loss of $236.6 billion in the coming years on account of unhealthy lifestyles and faulty diet.
