Indian Women are not burning enough calories.

Though the social media `gym looks’ of celebrities are a turn on for many women in India but what percentage of women are actually working out at the gyms? A recent survey by Godrej Interio’s ‘Make Space for Life’ finds more than 50 per cent of Indian women are not burning enough calories during the day.

The survey reveals that fifty-three per cent of Indian women burn less than 50 per cent of calories that a person should burn through physical activity, daily, as against 44 per cent of men. The average calorie burn budget for women is 374 calories per day but they end up burning just 44 per cent or 165 calories in a day. As for men, the average calorie burn budget is 476 calories per day, but they burn a little over 50 per cent of it or 262 calories in a day.

The survey finds that fewer women workout daily as compared to men: 71 per cent of women don’t work out daily compared to 63 per cent of men.

Thirty-nine per cent of women claim they are not able to workout daily because of work responsibilities. Nearly a third of women (30%) claim they are not able to work out daily because of lack of  fitness classes, gardens to walk and hectic lifestyle. And then the remaining 30 per cent of women show no interest in working out. In fact, there is very  little awareness about the health benefits of exercise.

Many women reveal that the pressure of work, daily life and responsibilities leaves them with less time for themselves. The idea of this survey was for the respondents to reflect upon what they were missing out in their daily lives.
