Heatwave : Fruits, Salads and Liquids

Its summer time. And this year around its scorching hot. With the government’s warning of a heatwave, we need to be extra cautious in terms of our food and lifestyle.
First and foremost avoid going out in the afternoons when its very hot. If you have to then wear loose clothes and cover your head with a dupatta or a hat.
Liquids
Keep yourself hydrated all day long. Have eight glasses of chilled water along with fresh fruit juice, Limbu pani, Coconut water and Chaas (buttermilk).
Consume Fruits to avoid Heatwave.
Watermelon, musk melon, berries, mangoes and grapes are the seasonal fruits in summer. These will keep you hydrated with a boost of energy, and reduce fatigue in the summers.
Milkshakes and Smoothies
A fruitshake (mango, strawberry, pineapple, apple) can be filling and refreshing. A smoothie with a yoghurt base an a scoop of protein powder can be a meal replacement drink. You can also use Soya Milk or almond Milk.

Avoid Fried Foods

Refrain from fried foods like Samosas, Wada, Pakoras or Puris. It is difficult to digest and will affect your productivity levels too. Fried foods also have high quantity of saturated fats.

Have light meals

Do not consume heavy meals in summer. Cut down on your carbohydrates i.e wheat roti and white rice. Instead go in for brown rice and millets. Have small meals along with cucumber salad and dahi. Have stir fry veggies.

Avoid Sugary drinks

Stay away from packaged drinks. Cold drinks, packed juices are very high on empty calories. Also cakes, pastries, ice creams can be very tempting but are very high on calories and sugar.
