Most of us know Nita Ambani as the chairman of Reliance Industries’ philanthropic arm Reliance Foundation. She is also a powerful businesswoman who owns the Indian Premier League cricket team. But not many know that Nita is a trained Bharatnatyam dancer. It is her love for Bharatnatyam (one of the oldest classical dance traditions from India)
To quote her from an interview to the The Times of India, “For me, dance is like meditation. Its my connection to God.”
This meditative practice and passion for dance has kept her going. Although she is married to one of the richest businessman Mukesh Ambani, Nita chooses to remain grounded with dance.
“Dance is my childhood love. It helps me be creative and I always kickstart my day with Yoga or my dance practice.
It is a famous story. At a cultural dance show which late Dhirubhai Ambani, Mukesh’s father attended he met Nita. He was very impressed with Nita’s dance performance. As a doting father he felt that he had found the right match for his son. He then went on to play the matchmaker for Mukesh and Nita. The rest is history. But remember it was dance which got the power couple together.
